In 2 Corinthians 13:14 we read: "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all"

Over the next nine weeks we will be focusing on the Apostles’ Creed, having a closer look at what we believe.

It is sometimes easy to say we believe. However, if we spoke no words and our actions spoke for us, would our actions declare loudly that we believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit? Or would there be parts of this that make us uncomfortable?

The Apostles’ Creed is different from the Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed starts with these words: “I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.” I like the reminder that not everything is visible. There are things happening at an invisible level.

Above all else the Apostles’ Creed reminds us about what we do believe. I would recommend reading it multiple times, maybe even memorizing it. Even though the Apostle’s Creed does not appear in this format in the Bible, it is 100% biblical.

What we believe and teach here at Howick Community Church.

A summary of our fundamental beliefs

  1. There is only one God eternally existing in three persons, Father - Son - Holy Spirit.
  2. The Bible is the inspired 'Word of God' and as such is infallible and the final authority for all beliefs and practices
  3. The deity, incarnation, virgin birth and sinlessness of the Lord Jesus
  4. That Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose again and is now exalted at the right hand of God in heaven
  5. That the Lord Jesus is coming back again for His church and then to reign on the earth
  6. That the Holy Spirit indwells and seals all believers at conversion, baptising them into the body of Christ which is His church.
  7. That the gifts of the Holy Spirit are distributed according to His sovereign will and are for the strengthening and building up of His people
  8. That everyone is a sinner before God and that salvation is the gift of God through His grace and received by personal faith in Christ.

If you would like to discuss any of these, feel free to contact myself or the elder.

May God’s blessings flow in abundance over you and your loved ones.
