Psalm 127:1-2a

‘Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late…”

We have just spent a month praying and fasting. Our purpose was to draw closer to God so that He can draw closer to us.

Chuck Swindoll has this insight: “Is the Lord really building your house? Stop and think. The Lord alone can give you the skills and abilities (you need) to be there for your family. You can’t do it on your own. Working independently of Him will accomplish zero. Remember, it is the Lord who gives these gifts.” Trust God.

It is easy to believe in God. It is much harder to trust the promises that we read in the Bible. It is much harder to trust that God will come through for us. So, we work harder in our own strength to achieve the things we want. We burn ourselves out in efforts that do not include the Lord.

Jesus said: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)

According to Scripture, there are wise builders and foolish builders.

So how do we build a solid house? We pray. We read the Bible. We commit to a biblical worldview, so that our minds can be renewed, and our lives be transformed.

Some food for thought: When we invest in building God’s house through time, treasure and talents, God builds our homes. In fact, Jesus is busy building our eternal homes right now. He encouraged His disciples by saying to them that there is plenty of room for all of us and that He is going to make sure of it. (John 14:2)

Let me finish with John 14:23 “Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

WOW! God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit making their home in me! What an incredible thought.

Looking forward with anticipation to my eternal home…
